EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE BOARD MEMBER - TREASURER
General Description:
Student Success Stores 501(c)3 is seeking a passionate, highly motivated, self-starter to join our Board of Directors! Our mission is to help students succeed in school by providing a free, anonymous place to shop for items that meet their basic needs. We do this by partnering with school counselors, administrators, teachers, and non-profits to open stores in high poverty school districts. Schools provide the space and identified, school personnel to shop with students. We supply products, volunteers, and a look-and-feel to create a space of dignity. By providing students with the essentials, we aim to ensure that each child starts the school day healthy, confident, and ready to learn.
Role Responsibilities
The Treasurer is expected to:
Possess financial knowledge of the organization
Devote the time necessary to perform the responsibilities of the Treasurer such as preparing financial statements and reports, tracking all monetary and in-kind donations, generating donation receipts as needed
Understand financial accounting for non-profits
Manage the board’s review of, and action related to, the board’s financial responsibilities
Ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis
Submit government tax filings and remittances in a timely manner
Oversee the preparation of the annual budget and presented the budget to the board for approval
Develops fiscal policies for recommendation to the board as needed to ensure the financial integrity and sustainability of the organization
Work with board president to develop long-term financial strategies
Stay informed of legal, regulatory, and sector developments relating to the board’s financial responsibilities
Board Responsibilities:
Student Success Stores has a unique board that is responsible for governance, management, and daily routine of the organization. Among other things, the board is responsible for:
Strategic and organizational planning
Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
Fundraising and resource development
Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
Enhancing the organization’s public image
In addition to general board member responsibilities, Executive Committee Board Members are responsible for:
Evaluating and protecting the mission and purposes of the organization
Assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
Meeting regularly and coordinating the monthly board meetings
Expectations of Board Members:
As part of the Board of Student Success Stores, Members are expected to:
Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization; fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission
Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy
Utilize your expertise and skills to assist in developing or managing currents practices or frameworks in place
Support the organization by advising on topics in which they have expertise or access to helpful resources
Participate fully on one committee of the organization. Current committees: operations, fundraising and development, and support functions
Time commitment:
10-12 hours a month, which includes: Board meetings, volunteer activities, and committee obligations
